November 2008 Meeting
Hello everyone,
Here are the meeting minutes for our most recent Psy.D.Meeting.
We are begining preparations for our annual "give back to the community" Christmas event. This year, we are planning to "adopt" a local family from the community that is is much need. Our plan is to collect as much money as possible from each student and faculty member to ensure this family has a good Christmas. I will send an email later this week with more details about our family that we will be helping.
In order to be successful with this charity, we are asking each student to donate a minimum of $5.00 and each faculty member to donate a minimim of $10.00. I understand this is a difficult year for most of us and it is hard to find the extra money for such donations. However, think about the family that is having a difficult time keeping food on the table for their children and worrying about keeping their house warm, no less worryig about keeping the spirirt of Christmas alive within their children and providing them with gifts. I think we can all find it within to donate for this family and help the children have a wonderful Christmas. We will begin collecting ASAP. Please give your money to Karen, Tanisha, or Brian in the PSC, and let them know your name and how much you are donating, so we can keep a running track of those who have donated. We will stalk those who have not donated by the next Case Conference!! :)
As for other events:
This month Dr. Cannon holds her semi-annual party. Please come and join in the fun!!
Later this month: Plan to meet at Fresno's in Dickson City at 9:00 pm for some relaxation and fun!

April 2008 Meeting
Hi Everyone!!!
InPsyDers
October 2007 Meeting
Here are the minutes from the InPsyders meeting on Friday!
2. Dr. Cannon would like a list of ideas for colloquim speakers. So far we came up with these ideas:
health psych
foresnsic psych
positive psych
sports psych
If anyone has any other ideas, or specific speakers, please let me know so i can email Dr. Cannon
3. For our community service project for Christmas, we would like to adopt a family from United Neighborhoods. They have 11 families and we were hoping that maybe we could get other clubs involved so we could cover all of the families. So, if there are any volunteers to go and try to rally other organizations on campus, or perhaps Sally, since you're president of GSA, maybe you could help us get other clubs involved...let me know.
4. Finally, for October, we were hoping to go on a haunted hayride. Is anyone interested??? If so, let me know what days work best, most likely weekends, or if there is a certain weeknight that some people can go, let me know so we can plan something. I think that's it for now. Please let me know any comments or ideas that you have.
Thanks and see you all this week! Fauve
February Meeting
Ideas for future meetings
Psychological writing skills:
The issue of psychological writing skills was brought up as an in issue worth discussion, and perhaps, presentation in a future meeting. In particular, it was suggested that individuals who felt comfortable with their writing skills could present on topics such as treatment plan writing, psychosocial writing skills, etc. Jenn Boberg and Ed Beavan were both recommended as possible presenters on this topic.
Contact book of Psy.D. students:
It was suggested that a contact book could be created and maintained on the InPsyDer's website. This could be a modification of the extant research/contact list. The idea would be to create something to record the interests, research, work, whereabouts, etc, of all previous and current members. Psy.D. recruits could be given the address of this contact book when interviewing.
Eastern Psychological Association meeting:
A number of InPsyDer members are attending EPA in Boston on March 11-12. It was suggested that those attending EPA bring back and present anything findings of interest to those who could not attend the conference. This would take place at the next meeting.
Input on colloquiums:
Our interest in future colloquiums was discussed. We all have topics that we are interested in seeing. It was suggested that each person who would like to, could generate a list of particular topics of interest to them and bring them to the next meeting. The idea would be to pick a topic area and not name specific individuals but perhaps suggest one or two as a starting point. The idea would be to discuss our interests with the faculty and basically give them our suggestions. The goal would be a collaborative system for our education.
It was also suggested that as a group the InPsyDer's could sponsor/invite speakers. The speakers would be announced to students in general. Those interested would be invited to participate. The idea was that we could give something to MU students in way of educational opportunities.
In line with this was the suggestion that we could keep abreast on Psi Chi's activities and perhaps interact with them in some manner. Someone suggested that we may try to contact other graduate students in "Psi Chi" like organization assuming that they exist.
Final Email on the nature of the InPsyDer's:
The nature of the InPsyDer's is unclear to many students. It was suggested that we send out an email to clarify that we are not conducting "b.s" sessions. The email would instead state our academic intentions and goals. It would be an effort to clarify our group and to once again invite others Psy.D. students to take part.
Organization of the InPsyDer's:
It was stated that we might increase participation by creating officers for the InPsyDer's. This might also increase our organization and make better use of our time. There was not a general consensus on whether this was a good idea or not. Thus, this will be an issue of discussion for the next meeting.
Next meeting:
The next meeting time has not been clearly set. However, everyone is asked to bring in their ideas for future colloquiums. Those who attend EPA will bring back and present interesting findings from the conference.
The idea of creating minutes and passing them by email to all members was suggested. Also, it was suggested that a "miniature" version of these minutes be sent out to all of the Psy.D. students to let them know what we are doing. Perhaps this will boost participation.
On a final note as agreed upon in the last meeting, I'll contact Dr. Cannon about our participation in the colloquium process, despite the fact that we are pretty sure our opinions are valued.
December
The December meeting of the InPsyDers of Marywood University took place on Friday, December 3 at Marywood University.
Mary Gruber presented information from a workshop she attended recently. Russell Barkley presented recent developments about Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Mary has agreed to leave a copy of the slides with Fiona Li. Please see Fiona in the PsyD office if you would like to make copies.
Mary also talked about her research, developing outcome measures to assess the use of assistive technology in the classroom. She is working with Dr. Lionetti on this project and it will be the topic of her dissertation. If anyone is interested in getting involved with this project (perhaps a thesis or dissertation topic), please see Mary.
February - Ken McGuire, M.A. will be invited to present a workshop about improving therapist competence when discussing sexuality issues. Mia Bartoletti and Kevin Burgoyne attended an ethics conference in October, sponsored by PPA, where Ken made this presentation.
March - Beth Stillman will host the forum on self-care for graduate students. Please bring your personal strategies for self-care and any other resources you've found helpful.
April - Mia Bartoletti will contact a speaker for Q & A on prescription medication.
Bill Chase suggested a speaker(s) to discuss professional issues related to working with minority populations. Kevin Burgoyne will contact an acquaintance in the field who works with an African-American population.
