Self-Mutilation

We would like to call you into the hidden, painful world of self-mutilators. It is a shameful, underground society due to the stigma attached to the illness by the general public and even mental health professionals. However suppressed, this "scarring" disease still thrives and is dubbed the "anorexia of the '90's." ONE PERCENT of Americans self-mutilate. This disturbing statistic can include a friend, a family member or you. Yes, this secretive disease is scary. Hopefully this web page will either begin to educate you or add to your arsenal of known facts about self-mutilation; because with education comes understanding and hope. We need to unleash this monster and let the healing begin.
