Know what you're drinking: there is 1/2 ounce of alcohol in a 12 oz. can of beer, a 4 oz. glass of wine, and a 1 oz. shot of 100-proof distilled spirits (like whiskey or vodka). This is generally what one person can metabolize in 1 hour.
This means that all drinks are NOT the same...a wine cooler can have nearly twice the alcohol content of a 12 oz. beer!

Measuring the amount of alcohol in the bloodstream is done by the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) test...
~ Blood Alcohol Content is measured in milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, or milligrams percent.
~ This means that a BAC of .10 means that one-tenth of 1% of your total blood content is alcohol. A BAC of .05 is like a slight buzz and a BAC of .50 could cause death.
~ BAC depends on body size and how much you drink at one time.
In many states if you are an underage drinker and are driving, a BAC of .02 will result in a loss of your license and hefty fines.
