What does the GRE-General Test consist of?

The GRE consists of a series of questions which test three areas of general knowledge: verbal ability, quantitative ability, and analytical ability.

What is contained in these 3 sections?

The Verbal section contains 30 questions which measure reading comprehension. You must also answer grammatical questions containing antonyms, sentence completion and analogies.

The Quantitative section contains 35 questions involving mathematical skills: arithmetic, geometry, algebra, comparisons, and interpretation of data are included.

The Analytical section contains 28 questions which measure one's analytical thinking and logical reasoning skills.

NOTE: There is also a trial section which is not computed into your final scores. Starting in the fall of 1999 the General Test will be exclusively computer-based. Each section is timed, and the computer adjusts the difficulty of further questions based on previous answers. The test takes 2.75 hours to complete.
