What
is the application procedure for the program?
You will need to fill out the ADA standard application which is available on the web page - Admission to the DI. (Distacne Option). You return this along with a letter of application, college transcripts, verification statement of Didactic Program completion or "intent to complete" verification, and 3 references on the ADA recommendation form to the program director. Unique to the distance education program is that you will also need to include preceptor agreements with Facility forms and Professional Staff form for all facilities / site offering a supervised practice experience. You also need to apply to Graduate Admissions. The graduate admissions application should be sent in a separate envelope to Graduate Admissions. The graduate admissions application packet includes the completed application, 2 references, transcripts and application fee.
You are also encouraged to view a web site developed by interns at Tufts University.
All students are selected through the computer matching process. A fee is charged for the service. Please contact D&D Digital for current cost or contact by email at DND@netins.net
What
are the acceptance dates for the internship?
The DI program will participate in the April match. Check with D & D Digital for the application deadline.
Do
I need to file an application with D+ D Digital?
Yes, the application can be obtained through D & D Digital.
How
long do I have to complete the program?
This is a full time program. You have one year, full time (32 hours/week), from your official start date to complete the program.
Will
Marywood University provide me with facilities and
preceptors?
No, it is the student's responsibility to arrange for facilities and preceptors for all experiences. The Marywood preceptor will offer advice to the student on the development of the internship plan and speak to prospective preceptors and facilities to clarify concerns.
What
constitutes a complete internship plan?
The internship plan consists of a completed curriculum for each course. This curriculum will list the competencies and planned experiences that the intern will complete during each course. The plan will also list the evaluation strategies that will demonstrate that each competency or Learning Outcome was met. These evaluation strategies will maintained within a binder. Examples of the completed curriculums are posted. The examples are posted to assist you in developing your own internship plan. They are not expected to be applicable to your individualized placement.
Are
preceptors paid by Marywood University?
No, no financial compensation is provided to preceptors by the University.
Can
I defer payments on my undergraduate loans?
Probably, since you are a registered graduate student taking at least a half-time program.
Individual loan programs do vary so it is best to check with your lender.
What
rotations, or courses, are involved and in what order should I take
them?
There are 4 rotations, ND 566 Supervised Practice: Foods Systems Management (6 cr.); ND 567 Supervised Practice: Clinical Dietetics (6 cr.); ND 565 Supervised Practice: Community Nutrition (4 cr.); and ND 500 Professional Practice (which includes the programs final exam and Staff Relief)(2 cr.). The order of the rotations can be individualized to meet student needs.
How
do I take classes ?
The classes are offered in the Moodle format and are available from the Marywood University Web page after a user name and ID have been assigned.
Can
I get credit for past work experience?
This is possible, speak to the DI Director about this as you begin to develop your internship plan.
Do
I need all preceptors to be RDs?
RDs of course will be the best suited preceptors for many rotations. Other health and management personnel may also be appropriate depending on the experience. Discuss specific issues with the DI Director.
Will
I be working with only Registered Dietitians?
Depending on the course you may be working with a CDM (Certified Dietary Manager), physician, RN, speech pathologist, occupational therapist or social worker.
Can
I transfer these courses into a Masters Program?
These courses are designed as experiential courses and are not accepted as part of Marywood's MS program. Other schools may have different policies. Check with the school you would like to attend.
What
do I get at the completion of this program?
After successful completion of the program you receive a signed Verification Statement.
What
does successful completion mean?
You must get a B- or better in all rotations and be designated as at least "competent "on all Learning Outcomes.
Do
I need to come to Marywood?
No, you may complete the program without ever coming to the Marywood campus although you are certainly welcome to visit the campus.
